Dimensional Mother’s Day gift cardholder

Gift cards are a thoughtful and useful choice for those moms that are a bit hard to buy for. You could use the little folder that comes with the gift card…but better yet, why not make a dimensional keepsake holder Mom is sure to treasure long after the gift card is gone. This is a great craft for kids and teaches basic measurements and cutting skills.

You will need:

Cardstock in a solid color

Two pages of cardstock with the same flower motifs in a corresponding color

Tacky craft glue

Scrap of decorative ribbon trim

Clothespins to hold your card while the glue dries

3-D self-sticking dots

Small cuticle type scissors

Ruler, pencil, and stylus (you may use a dried out ink pen in lieu of a stylus)

1.     Make the card.  From the solid colored cardstock cut a piece 4 ¾” x 7 3/4.”  Measure 3 ¼” down from the top edge and score with the stylus.  Fold on the scored line to make a card.

2.     Measure 1 ¼” from the bottom edge and score with the stylus.  Fold up.  Put a dab of tacky glue on each side and hold with a clothespin till dry. (Card pocket made)

3.     Cut out a flower motif and adhere with tacky glue in a pleasing arrangement on the front of your card.

4.     Using the small scissors carefully cut out an exact copy of the motif you glued on the front of the card.  Remove one side of the paper backing from two or more (depending upon how large your flower is) foam dots and attach to the flower on the card.  Remove paper backing on these foam dots and place the flower motif on top making sure you have lined the flowers up exactly.  The card now has a dimensional flower.  Continue until you have used as many or as few flowers as desired.

5.     Glue a decorative ribbon trim down the side for an added touch.

The gift card holder fits nicely inside a small note card envelope or you can just include it inside your greeting card.
