Mini blackboard gift card box for teachers

Well it’s that time of year again…school is getting out soon and you really should be thinking about an awesome end of the year teacher gift. Little Johnny was lucky to have such a wonderful teacher. But think about it, do you really want to give yet another coffee mug? Do they really need baked goods? The best thing to give a teacher is a gift card that they can use on whatever they really need.

Now that you’ve decided on a gift card how can you display it for gift giving? Recycle an old gift card box (You probably have some leftover from Christmas) Gift card boxes have a center section to hold the gift card. If you don’t have one you can easily purchase one. I was lucky enough to find several for pennies at Target that were marked down. This little blackboard gift card box is so cute and easy to make. You can write to and from on the mini blackboard and even make a miniature blackboard eraser and chalk! Mini book gift card holder for your favorite teacher or Dad

It’s getting close to the end of the school year and what do give as a gift for a favorite teacher?  I don’t know any teacher who doesn’t have at least 3 dozen coffee mugs and cookies are nice but maybe your child should show of his or her measuring abilities and make a mini book gift card holder for a gift card.  Yes, gift cards are great you can get them in almost any denominations these days and the teacher can choose the gift. I've made this gift card holder for teachers, but don't stop there...Father's Day is coming up and it would be so easy to replace the ABC letters with DAD!  

You will need:

Card stock paper

Dimensional design or regular felt

Tacky craft glue, clothespin

Ruler

Pencil

Scissors

Felt or foam letters or alternately mini felt apples (or you can make an apple from mini red hearts.)

Small amount of green chenille stem (for apple motif only)

5 inches of gold cord

Raised button

1.     Cut the cardstock into a 6” x 8” rectangle.

2.     Fold the cardstock in half meeting end to end.

3.     Rotate and fold in half again. (See photo)

4.     Open the folded piece of cardstock.  Fold up the lower right hand corner using the fold line as a guide. (See photo)  Refold the card and you will have formed a little pocket.  Put a dab of glue at the lower corner to secure the pocket and secure with a clothes pin till dry.

5.     Cut a piece of felt for the cover 6 ¼” x 4 ¼”.

6.     Cut a four-inch piece of gold cord for the closure.

7.     Turn the card over and measure and make a pencil mark down 2 inches on the side with the pocket. Make the cord into a loop and attach at the mark you made with a dab of tacky glue. This is the closure loop.  Turn over before you glue to make sure it is on the backside and when pulled around to the front will close the book.  (See photo)

8.     Spread a generous amount of tacky glue onto the entire back and attach the felt.  If your felt is dimensional or a print, be sure that it faces the correct direction.  Let dry.

9.     Glue a button on the front of the book and use it to loop the cord over it to hold the book closed.

10. Attach three felt or foam letters lengthwise down the front, A,B,C. or your can alternately attach a couple of felt apples.  Be creative!  Open the book and insert the gift card.

Note:  If you can find apples and you would like it to have an apple you can make apples with two small hearts.  Turn one upside down on top of the other and trace the top on the bottom of the first one and cut.  Use a piece of green chenille stem on the top and glue to the book front.

Let's be honest.  Some people are just really hard to buy gifts for.  They have everything or you just can't think of something they would like.  And it's even harder for kids to buy for those adults on their list! You will need:

Gift card pocket printable

Stylus or dried out ink pen

Scissors

Glue or double faced tape

Clothespin to hold pocket closed if using glue

White card stock paper

Printer and computer

1.  Download the free printable and print on card stock paper.  Cut out pocket.  Use a stylus or dried out ink pen to score around the curved lines, Use a ruler and stylus to score center line and tab lines.  Fold on the scored lines.  

2.  Use some double faced tape to attach the tab to the opposite side--or use tacky glue and a clothes pin to hold till the glue dries.  Insert your gift card and push in the curved tabs on both ends to close.

Kid's coloring gift card pocket--Free printable

Kid's can put their own personal touch on this gift card pocket with their favorite colors. Simply print the free printable coloring gift card pocket and decorate by coloring with crayons, colored pencils, markers and even glitter.  Easy directions follow:

You will need:

Computer and printer

White card stock paper

Double faced tape--or you can substitute a glue stick or tacky glue and use clothespin to hold the pocket together while the glue dries

Scissors

Stylus or dried out ink pen

Ruler for scoring straight lines

Crayons, colored pencils, markers or glitter for decorating the pocket

1.  Download and print the pocket printable on white card stock paper and decorate your pocket. Cut out the pocket. Score the center line and side flap line with a stylus or dried out ink pen.  Score the curved lines. (The inside curves, not where you cut out your pocket)  Bend all the scored lines.

2.  Apply a strip of double faced tape on the side flap and attach to the opposite side.  You may use glue on this step if desired.

3.  Push in the end flaps (If you scored them they should close perfectly) on both ends and insert your gift card.

Note:  When scoring your pocket it is best to do it on a stack of newspapers.
