How to make a super easy glow in the dark pet bow

 

You can make an adorable glow in the dark pet bow that is easily attached to the pet’s collar.  Simple attaching a covered hair elastic in a figure 8 position on the back allows easy on and off.  There are lots of glow in the dark ribbons, especially in the fall for Halloween.  The one I used only needs to be under a light for 20 minutes and it will glow for approximately 8 hours.  

How to make a super easy glow in the dark pet bow

 

Materials:

 

• Glow in the dark ribbon I used 7/8” wide
• Covered hair elastic
• Mini Bowdabra
• Bowdabra bow wire
• Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks.
• Iron and ironing board (optional)

 

Instructions:

 

First, cut a piece of Bowdabra bow wire.  Then, fold it in half and insert it into the Bowdabra.  You will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other side.  This will serve as your slipknot. Tuck the ends under to stay out of the way while you are making your bow.

 

Next, cut a 36-inch piece of ribbon of your choice.

 

Next, lay the ribbon into the Bowdabra right side down.  Then, bring the other side over making a loop.  Twist so that the right side is facing up and make a matching loop.  Continue twisting and making loops until you have four loops on each side.  

 

Now, scrunch everything down with the Bowdabra wand.  Then, insert the loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra. Remove the bow from the Bowdabra, separate the ends, turn to the back, and tie a knot.  Tie a double knot for extra security. Clip the wire ends.  Adjust and arrange the loops of the bow.

 

Using, a hot glue gun, twist the elastic hair tie into a figure 8 shape and glue to the back of the bow.  This will allow the collar to slip through both loops of figure 8 elastic, attaching the bow. 

 

Cut a two-inch piece of matching ribbon.  Fold it in half lengthwise.  Using the glue gun, start from the back and glue the 2-inch folded ribbon to cover the bow going over the already attached elastic.

 

Feed your collar through both loops of the elastic.  

 

 

 

Halloween glow in the dark dog bow

Hi there!  I’m over at Bowdabra blog today teaching you how to make an awesome glow in the dark dog bow.  Halloween is on the horizon and you will want to dress up your pet as well as yourself.  You can make this adorable glow in the dark dog bow quick and easy with the Bowabra bow maker with ruler attachment. 

The glow on the bow comes from using glow in the dark duct tape that we made into a kind of ribbon.  This duct tape has a unique fabric like texture that makes it ideal for bow making.  Now when you go out trick or treating with your pooch you will both be a little safer with the blow in the dark dog bow!

The best part is that this dog bow is removable with elastic that easily slides on and off your pet’s collar.

Materials:

Glow in the dark duct tape

Cutting board or any other removable surface

Bowdabra mini bow maker with ruler attachment

Bowdabra bow wire

24” 1 ½” wide orange and black Halloween ribbon

2” 1/8” wide black elastic

Scrap piece of black felt

Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks

Directions:

1.     First make the duct tape ribbon.  Working on a cutting board, cut two pieces of the duct tape 12” long.  Now, carefully stick them sticky sides together.  You will have one piece. 

2.     Next, use a ruler to measure about ¼” wide by 12” long.  Cut two of these strips.  This will be your glow in the dark ribbon.

3.     Now to make the bow cut 18” bow Bowdabra bow wire, fold in half and insert into the bow maker.  You will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other.  Fold the wires under to keep out of the way while you are making the bow.

4.     Then fold the orange and black ribbon in half to find the center.  Insert into the Bowdabra with the wrong side facing up.

5.     Now bring the right side of the ribbon over and insert the end into the Bowdabra. Then bring the opposite side of the ribbon over the first and under to insert that end into the Bowdabra.  It will look like an X.

6.     Push the first ribbon loop into the Bowdabra.  Then push the second loop into the Bowdabra over the first one. 

7.     Now take the ¼” strips of duct tape ribbon and fold in half to find the center.  Insert into the Bowdabra. Now make a loop with the right side of the ribbon first.  Then make a matching loop with the other side. 

8.     Repeat step 7 with the second ¼’ duct tape ribbon, so you have two mini bows in the center. Scrunch down with the Bowdabra wand.

9.     Insert the two loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra.  Remove from the Bowdabra, turn to the back, separate the wires and tie a knot.  Then tie a second knot. After you tie the second knot clip the excess wires.

10. Finish with the elastic attachment.  Cut a piece of black felt ¾” x ¾” and a piece of elastic about 2” long.  (You may need to cut a larger or smaller piece of elastic depending upon how wide your pet’s collar is.

11. Finally glue the elastic in a loop on the back of the bow. Cover where it attaches by gluing the felt on that area.  You may slide your bow easily on and off your pet’s collar.  The center bow will glow with a very Halloween-y greenish hue.

Make a korker fireworks dog bow tutorial

This little korker fireworks dog bow makes me think of the colorful fireworks that they set off every year in the park.  I made mine in red, white, and blue but it would look cute in any color.  You can easily make korker ribbons out of scrap ribbon you have hanging around so it costs practically nothing!  And it is so easy and fun to dress your furry friend up for the holiday. 

This bow uses an elastic loop to slide onto your pup’s collar so you can make more than one and change them around.  This July 4^th your pet will be dressed to the nines with his fireworks dog bow. 

Materials:

3/8” or ¼” wide grosgrain ribbon in your choice of colors

Mini Bowdabra bow maker with hair bow tool and ruler attachment

Bowdabra bow wire

Dowels

Wooden clothespins

Home oven and cookie sheet lines with foil

3/8” wide elastic 3” long for small collar but you can adjust size for other sizes

Stiffened felt circle ½’ diameter

Stiffened felt rectangle ¾” x 1”

Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks

Small sparkle pompom

Instructions:

1.     Make the korker ribbon.  Wind the ribbon around a dowel and hold at the ends with wooden clothespins. (You can alternately tie the ribbon at the ends)  Place on a cookie sheet lined with foil.  Heat in the oven at 275 degrees for 20 minutes.  Let cool for 10 minutes before removing.

2.     Gather all your supplies.

3.     Cut a piece of Bowdabra bow wire 18 inches long.  Fold in half and insert into the bow maker.  You will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other.

4.     Cut the korker ribbon pieces 5 inches long.  Cut 6 ribbon pieces.  I cut two each of red, white, and blue.

5.     Insert the korker pieces into the bow maker one at a time alternating colors.  Make sure there is the same amount of ribbon on each side.

6.     After you have added all the colors, scrunch down with the Bowdabra wand.

7.     Insert the two loose wires through the loop and pull tight to make a slipknot while the bow is still in the bow maker.

8.     Remove from the Bowdabra and tie a knot in the back.

9.     Cut a ½” diameter circle from stiffened felt and use the hot glue gun to attach to the back of the bow.  Cut a 3/8” x 3” long piece of elastic and hot glue it to the back of the bow in a loop for sliding on the collar.

10. Add a small sparkle pompom to the center of the bow.  Slide on to your pet’s collar.
