Pretty soon (before you know it that is) it will be
gift-giving season. Why not be
prepared and have some home made scented soaps to put in little gift
baskets? With the supplies so
readily available in craft stores it’s easier than you may think to make your
own scented soaps.
You will need:
Soap base (it comes in blocks in Shea, olive oil, glycerin,
etc.)
Soap scents
Soap color dyes
Rectangle plastic soap mold
Glass bowl
Bamboo skewer for stirring
Microwave oven
Knife for cutting the soap cubes
1. Gather your supplies. Cut
the soap into small cubes. They
soap base is divided into sections.
I usually use about 12 cubes for three bars.
2.
Place the cubes in the bowl and microwave for 40
seconds on high. Remove the bowl
and stir. Replace the bowl back in
the microwave and heat for 10-second intervals, removing and stirring after
each time until all the soap melts.
3.
Add drops of your scent of choice. The amount depends upon your
preferences. Stir.
4.
Lastly add some drops of color and swirl. Immediately pour into molds. Let the molds stand until they are set.
5.
To easily remove the bars from the molds place the molds into
the freezer for about 20 minutes.
They bars should pop out with no trouble. Let the soaps sit till they reach room temperature and wrap
with clear plastic wrap.
6.
If you would like to present your soaps in a
decorative sleeve see Deco guest soap sleeve Be creative and add flowers like lavender and more.
Note: If
someone you know has a skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis you can
purchase pharmaceutical grade tea tree oil at the drugstore to add to your
soaps. Please check the label on
the bottle.
