How to make simple duct tape earrings for Breast Cancer Awareness

Duct tape earrings for breast cancer awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  You can whip up these simple duct tape earrings to show your support.  You can also use this technique to make other awareness earrings using the appropriate color duct tape.

I’ve used a pink camo duct tape to make mine for Breast Cancer Awareness, but you can alternately use a solid color pink for the same effect.

Materials:

Pink camp duct tape
Self-healing cutting mat
X-acto or craft knife
Ruler
Headpins
Small pink heart beads
Pink size E seed beads
Medium silver bead
Fish hook ear wires
Needle-nosed pliers
Hot Glue gun and hot glue sticks

Instructions:

1.     Cut two pieces of duct tape 1” x 4” using the cutting mat, ruler, and craft knife.

2.     Fold the duct tape in half together.  Repeat for the second piece of duct tape.  Now fold the duct tape into ribbon shape and use the glue gun to attach so it stays together.

3.     Next, thread onto a 2 ½” head pin in this order:  Seed bead, pink heart, silver bead.  Now poke through the top of the ribbon.  Add another seed bead.

4.     Then, using the needle-nosed pliers, bend the top of the head pin to the right.  Next, add the fishhook ear wire making sure it faces in the correct direction, and bend the wire closed.

Recycled light bulb ornament | breast cancer awareness

Recycled light bulb ornament for breast cancer awareness

From time to time those large 40-watt light bulbs from my bathroom burn out.  I don’t toss them, however, because this is the perfect size for a light bulb ornament.  This one was destined to be one for Breast cancer awareness.

So this burned out bulb became a cute little breast cancer awareness snow woman.  She looks so cute with her furry pink hat and a breast cancer awareness ribbon adorning her white scarf.

Since I used a large pipe cleaner for her scarf (available in the craft stores) she can sit on a counter as well as hang on a tree, mantle, or anywhere.  And what’s more, she is so easy to make.

Come back and visit during the month of July where we celebrate Christmas in July!

Materials:

  • Large round 40-watt light bulb
  • Jute twine
  • Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
  • Masking tape roll, to hold the bulb while working (optional)
  • Extra large pink and white pipe cleaners
  • Large white/silver pompom
  • Scrap of white felt
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Paint markers, black, pink, white, and orange (you can substitute glass paint here if desired but the lines are easier with a paint marker.
  • 5/8” wide grosgrain pink ribbon

Instructions:

1.     Place the light bulb in the center of a masking tape roll or other surface that holds it still while you work.  Cut a piece of jute 24” long.  Fold the jute in half to find the center and using the glue gun attach to the top ridged section of the bulb.  Bring the jute to the back and tie in a knot using glue to attach.  Next, bring the sides up adding glue to hold and tie in a knot at the top center.  Add more hot glue to secure.  Finally, make a loop at the top and tie a knot for the hanger.  Cut off any excess jute.

Breast Cancer Awareness Key chain tutorial

Breast cancer awareness key chain

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and this recycled cork key chain is the perfect gift for a survivor or to show your support.  It’s quick and easy to make using an upcycled champagne cork to create a cute key chain.

Supplies:

·      Recycled champagne cork
·      Pink acrylic paint
·      Small paintbrush
·      10” 7/8” wide pink grosgrain ribbon - lighter or clear nail polish to seal the ends
·      2 inches 22 gauge pink wire
·      Wire cutter
·      Needle nosed pliers
·      Large hole wooden bead
·      Two eye screws
·      Pink key ring

Instructions:

1.     Use a small paintbrush to paint sections of the cork with paint.  Since the cork is composed of many little sections, you can pick and choose small areas to paint within the cork lines.  The bottom of the cork is smoother so paint the bottom solid.  (See photo)  Let dry.
