They make wonderful gifts and it’s never too early to think about Christmas. February is almost here.  Soon Valentine's Day will be here and the color red is kind of the color the day.  Wouldn't these Red daylily wine glasses be gorgeous as you raise a toast to your true love?  I happen to be one of those sappy individuals who got engaged on Valentine's Day and I've been happily married ever since.  So get those paintbrushes ready, set, go...

Materials:

Acrylic gloss paint (It will say it’s for glass on the label) Red, black, yellow, lt. green

Wine glasses

Alcohol

Paper towels

Liner brush

Flat brush

Tape measure and clear tape

Cotton swab or toothpick

Paper plate or palette to hold your paint

Home oven and cookie sheet

1.     Wash and dry the wine glasses.  Wipe down the glasses with alcohol to remove any residue, oils or finger marks.

2.     Wrap the tape measure around the bowl of the glass.  Attach with clear 

tape.  Thin some red paint with water and make dots two inches apart for a total of six. (My wine glass was 12 inches in circumference.  If yours is smaller make allowances for six equal sections. Remove the tape measure. Using the thinned paint make petal shapes using the dots as guides.  It is not important to be perfect since flower petals are not perfect.

3.    Turn the glass over and work on the outside bottom of the glass.  Use the liner brush with black paint to make dots on the bottom of the bowl, a bit down the stem and some on the lower petal areas.  Let dry.  Add some black lines in between the dots.  (See photo) Let dry.

4.     Load the liner brush with yellow paint and add some longer yellow lines in between the black dots.  (See photo)  Do this in every petal space.

5.    Paint the entire bottom black.  This will make the center of the flower appear darker on the inside of the glass.  Let dry.  

6.    Load the flat brush with red paint and fill in the first petal right over top of the dried dots and lines.  Continue with red paint filling in the second petal, but before the paint is dry, dip a corner of the flat brush in black paint and use it sideways to darken the area between the petals.  Rinse and dry your brush.  Continue making petals in this manner till you have filled in all six petals.  Let dry.

7.    Repeat step six for a second coat. Let dry.

8.    Paint the stem lt. green and let dry completely.  If you make any mistakes you can easily fix it with a cotton swab and alcohol or scrape it with a toothpick.  The paint is not set until you bake it.

9.    Place your wine glasses on a cookie sheet and put in a 350-degree oven for 30 minutes.  Let cool in the oven before removing.  (Don’t worry it won’t melt)

My dog personalized doggy treat jar tutorial

Doesn’t the real king or queen of your castle deserve an extra special treat jar?

If you are like me you have little bags of dog treats all over the place. You may have noticed that sometimes those little zipper bags are a bit hard to seal up.  As a result soft treats may end up stale and hard.

The answer to this problem is a treat jar, but not just any treat jar.  No!   Man’s (Or woman’s) best friend deserves a personalized treat jar.  It’s easy and inexpensive…would you expect anything less on Make it easy Crafts?  You can even recycle plastic jars that rice sometimes comes in. 

You will need:

·      Glass or recycled plastic wide mouth jar (I found one for under $3.00 at Target)

·      Decoupage glue (I use Modpodge available in craft stores)

·      Small paintbrush

·      Computer and printer with all purpose paper

·      Photos of your dog

1.     Prepare your jar.  If there is a label on a recycled one soak it off in some warm water.  If the surface is sticky from the label, rub some peanut butter on it, wipe it off and wash it. Rub down the jar with alcohol.

2.     Load your desired photos onto your computer and put them all in a strip collage. (This way the photos are all one size) Picmonkey is a great online photo editing website.  Simply add the photos and print on all-purpose paper.  You may need a couple strips depending upon the size of your jar.

3.     Cut out each photo.  On a curved surface it is easiest to add the photos one at a time smoothing out any wrinkles with your fingers. (Don't smooth them all out though, wrinkles give it character) It’s gets a little messy but it’s washes off your hands easily. Using the small paintbrush apply some decoupage glue on the jar where you would like your photos to go. Press the photos on the wet glue area one at a time. Add a generous amount of  decoupage glue on top of the photos.  Keep adding until you have added all the photos you want and let dry.

4.      My jar had a label area on the front, so I pressed a highlight photo all around the ridge with my fingers to get the shape, cut out and added it to the label area.  Brush a coat of decoupage glue over all the photos one last time and let dry.

5.     Fill with treats and let your pups enjoy their new jar!

Note:  Decoupage glue dries clear.

Party in a jar

Have you seen the gift jars layered with ingredients for making brownies or cookies?  Using the same concept and layering technique, why not fill the jar with a party? Fill the layers with various party themed ingredients. I like wrapped candy, balloons, and birthday candles or little bags of confetti. Key the layers in the party colors and you will be all set! It’s easy and so much fun to create.  Anthropologie has a similar party jar but it costs about $30!  You can make one for pennies.

You will need:

Small Mason jar

Sheer wired ribbon 4 ½” wide x 35” long

Bowdabra mini Bow maker with ruler

Bowdabra bow wire

Scissors

Ruler

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

For filling layer--balloons in color choice and sizes, wrapped candy kisses, mini candles, confetti or sequins, even small toys and prizes.

1.    Gather your supplies.  Cut an 18-inch piece of Bowdabra bow wire and fold in half and place in the Bow maker.  You will have a loop at one end and two pieces of wire on the other.

2.    Cut 35 inch long piece of 4 ½” wide sheer wired ribbon and insert directly in the Bow maker from the top.  The ribbon piles up like an accordion.  Scrunch the ribbon into the Bow maker until you reach the end.

3.    Use the wand to push the ribbon down tightly.

4.    Thread the two loose ends of the bow wire through the loop and pull tightly.  Remove from the bow maker and tie tightly into a knot at the back.

5.    Working on the front of the bow pull the loops up and adjust into a pom pom shape.

6.    Use a hot glue gun and glue sticks to attach the pom pom bow on the top of the Mason jar lid.  Let the glue dry and adjust the pom if necessary.

7.    Fill the jar in layers with various colors.  Balloons, candy, candles etc.  You can make as many layers as you want in any combination.
